Fili the Dwarf

My drawing of Fili the Dwarf

Those of you who've seen the Hobbit know that there are 13 dwarves in the movie. For those of you who haven't... there are 13 dwarves in the movie. Randome LOTR info, Fili is older brother to Kili, and both dwarves are nephews to Thorin Oakenshield.

I will say that this is one of those drawings that I had FUN working on. Some drawings drag on, and on, and on, while some drawings are lots of fun to sit down and add a whack load of detail. This was one of the latter.
I think I put over 16 hours into this dwarf, which is getting to be my new standard time that it takes me to do a human portrait. But because of all that hair (and this isn't the hairiest dwarf!) I had to be more careful with the lighting and how much contrast I had to put in. Which pieces to leave white, and which ones to darken completely.
All-in-all I like how everything turned out. And hopefully this won't be my last drawing of dwarves. Thorin was going to be next, but I couldn't find a picture I wanted to do that hasn't been done a hundred times already.

Phil Wickham

For those of you who don't know Phil Wickham is, this is he.

Phil Wickham is a musician who does worship music. My brother and I had the opportunity to see Phil this past week, and I got to give him this drawing. Phil's most popular song Heaven Fall Down was the starting song, and I will tell you, if you get the chance to go see him, DO IT. His show was phenomenal!
The thing is that I started the drawing last week (Jan 12-13ish) but didn't start on the shading until the next week where I promptly started the day before the concert. Smart I know. I worked on it for that day, and the next for that evening.
And this is the first human drawing that I've done on this new paper I'm starting to use, so that's why his skin looks super smooth. I used the same paper on the Evenstar drawing.

Greetings one and all, and welcome to 2013!
Although this drawing isn't nearly as exciting as many of my others, I just wanted to do a post saying "Happy New Year".
I was bored one day, so I scrolled through one of my horse pictures folders, and I ran across a photo I couldn't resist drawing. So I set out on the adventure to drawing another animal. I don't know when I did this, but this post has been waiting for over a month to be posted. I just didn't want to post it until now.

On another note, I wanted to let you guys know that last year, on January 1st, 2012, I posted my Bono drawing. At that time, I had 40,000 views on my drawings blog (this one). I want to let you guys know that in one year I have gone up 50,000 views making it a grand total of 90,000 views! Thank you guys so much!!! It has blown my mind that I have had 50,000 views this year!!

And not only that, but my poll results have come in:
What would you like to see most on this blog?
Hockey Drawings: 25%-17 votes
Music Artists: 38%-26 votes
Vehicles (sports cars): 4%-3 votes
Animals: 13%-9 votes
Miscellaneous: 17%-12 votes
