Jeremy Dunn - Nine Lashes (Revision)

Earlier in July 2012, I was planning on going to a summer music festival. Nine Lashes was going to be there, and I really wanted to give them artwork. However, it didn't end up working out, and I didn't go. But I was left with 4 new drawings, and one that was done back in October of 2011 (bottom drawing).

I really wanted to give these guys my best, and the drawing posted below wasn't my best, and I knew that, even back when I'd drawn it for the first time.
So I decided that I'd redo it. Over the original drawing. Smart thing to do?? Yes, in this case.

I spent a few hours erasing and redrawing Jeremy's face, and boy-oh-boy and I glad I did! I cannot believe the difference between the drawings. If you do not believe me, click on the drawing and flip back and forth between them.
Currently, this is one of my favorite drawings I have right now.
Ssh, don't tell him that I've done this drawing ;)

Jared Lankford - Bassist for Nine Lashes

Jared Lankford the bassist for the band Nine Lashes. Named "Quietly Dramatic" by Kismint

I must say that Jared was almost as hard to find a picture of as Noah was. But I finally found one that I could draw, so here it is. His facial hair was the most fun to draw, and I think that was the part that turned out the best.

Noah Terrell - Drummer for Nine Lashes

Noah Terrell. The drummer for the band Nine Lashes.

Noah was somewhat of a challenge. The biggest challenge being that there aren't many drawable photos of him, and since the band has only recently become a larger band (popularity wise) there aren't many photos of them in general. So I asked Janette Yoder if I could use some of her photos to draw pictures of the band. She readily agreed, and so I found myself a picture to draw.

I would like to find another, better photo to give him, but I'm glad with what I have.

Melanie Greenwood

I actually started this drawing sometime in March. Yeah, that's how long I've procrastinated against doing it. But since I have been drawing like crazy, I decided I might as well finish it. So here it is.

It's not that the drawing was particularly hard to do, nor that I didn't want to, I just didn't have inspiration to do it. If you look at the drawing I did of Melanie back in September 2011, this one has so much more detail in it; smoother shading, higher contrast.
By doing this drawing, I remember why I like to do males more often than females. Because most females have smooth skin, adding the shading is really hard, because you have to have every stroke in place, with the right pressure. If you don't, then you get a mark you don't want to. And Melanie has porcelain doll-like skin (very smooth!), so it can take up to 3 more hours just so her skin will stay the same all the way through. Which is definitely nice for her :)

But on the plus side, I love to do things like long hair, thick eyelashes, and jewelry, things most guys don't have.

Though, I'm happy with the way it turned out :)

Friend Surfing

This is a friend of mine who is going to South Africa for Surf Masters. He's a really good friend, and a really good surfer, but I'll be sad to see him go.

So I decided to send something with him to SA to remind him of "home". What better than a picture of something of that he loves to do. Surf. The water was what took a long time, and I still need to work on his mouth, but this is basically what he'll get.

Girl Worshiping God with Her Guitar

This is a friend of mine who used to live in my city, but now lives on another continent. She loves to play the guitar, and loves God. I decided to send her a gift of a drawing of herself, though it's only been a few months since she moved. She loves Switchfoot, and so I decided that when I see Switchfoot next, I'm going to ask them to sign this drawing, then I'll send it to her. She is a special friend, and I miss her a lot. Hopefully this'll make her year. Miss you Lise!!

Joe Rickard - Drummer for RED

My two Joe Rickard drawings.

I must say that Joe surprised me with how fun he is to draw. His long black hair is a wonder (and super easy) to fill in, because it's all black. However, between these two drawings, I must have used a full 8B pencil to complete the blackness it demands.
His eyes actually startled me when I was working on the drawing. I never paid attention to Joe's features the same way I did the twins, but now that I've done him, I enjoy doing Joe the most. His eyes are actually the nicest of the three. They almost glow...

Personally I enjoy the landscape drawing more than the portrait drawing (aka, bottom one more than the top), and I hope when I show him these two that he'll take the portrait drawing ... just saying.

Randy Armstrong - Bassist for RED

Randy is the twin to Anthony, and plays the bass for the band RED. I actually was really excited to do this drawing, despite the tough facial hair this picture produced.
Out of all four band members, Randy is the hardest to find decent pictures of him. If you don't believe me, watch this video (behind the scenes of their music video; skip to 4:50) to see what I mean. He's just that type of personality, and we love him for it!
Unfortunately, that means that there are very few drawable pictures of him. This one I found in one of their videos, and managed to snap a picture of it.
